This is the most traditional of the Malay states, a place where the culture runs deep and the things worth seeing are spread across the whole state rather than gathered in one town. Kota Bharu, the state capital, is where most visitors arrive and where Agtran is based, but the capital is only the starting point. The coast runs south from the city along the South China Sea, the Thai border towns sit to the north, and the deep jungle interior stretches far to the south toward Gua Musang. Covering that spread from a single base is difficult without your own vehicle. Public transport thins out quickly once you leave Kota Bharu. Buses between the main towns exist but run on their own timetables, and the villages, waterfalls, craft workshops, and beaches that make Kelantan special are rarely on a convenient route. A car turns a state that feels scattered into something you can actually plan a trip around, letting you reach a craft village in the morning, a temple in the afternoon, and a beach by evening. You collect the car in Kota Bharu, either at the airport, at our branch, or delivered to your hotel within the city, and from there the whole state opens up. The minimum rental age is 21, and you need a valid driving licence with identification, plus an international driving permit if you are visiting from abroad. One local detail worth knowing before you plan: Kelantan observes a Friday and Saturday weekend rather than Saturday and Sunday, so some shops and offices close on Friday.
